Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer makes heartbreaking admission 27 years on from death
Princess Diana’s brother Charles Spencer has made a heartbreaking confession 27 years after her death. Speaking on ITV Good Morning Britain, Charles revealed there was one thing he still did after losing his sister.
On Tuesday’s episode, he told how he visits the late princess’ grave ‘pretty much every day’. Diana is buried at the Spencer family’s ancestral home Althorp.
Charles has been the custodian of the estate since 1992, when his father John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer, died. The former Princess of Wales is buried on a picturesque island at an ornamental lake nestled deep within Althorp Park’s Pleasure Garden.
Diana died in August 1997. Charles said: “I’m sure pretty much everyone watching this programme has had trauma in their family at some point. And, like everyone else, you sort of get used to it without it ever going away.”
Prince Harry wrote in his memoir Spare how a bridge was previously in-situ for members of the public to pay their respects to Princess Diana but it was later removed over security concerns. He said: “The bridge had been removed, to give my mother privacy, to keep intruders away.”
Harry also told how he took wife Meghan Markle to Diana’s graveside for the first time in 2022 – on what was the 25th anniversary of her death. The visit started with a ‘little shove’ through some stubborn mud from his uncle Charles Spencer as the duo rowed out on a boat to the island for the visit.
Prince Harry said: “No visit to this place was ever easy, but this one… 25th anniversary. And Meg’s first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum.
