‘Tragic’: King Charles accused of having ‘temper tantrum’ in awkward moment

King Charles is facing backlash online after social media users believed he had a ‘temper tantrum’ during the State Opening of Parliament this week. A video of a page boy attempting to adjust the King’s robe over the Sovereign Throne has gone viral because His Majesty appears to pull his hand back suddenly and tries to rearrange the robes himself.

While it looked like a rather awkward moment, Charles can be heard saying, “thank you,” to the boy twice. However, this doesn’t appear on all versions of the video that are making the rounds online.

Charles also famously faced backlash after becoming irritable over fountain pens on two separate occasions soon after his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth II, died in 2022. On one of the occasions, his pen started leaking, with Charles exclaiming in frustration that he “can’t bear this bloody thing”. The incidents soon became known as ‘pengate’.
