The deeply personal journey began with assistance from his uncle Charles Spencer, who helped navigate through stubborn mud before they rowed to the island burial site.
“No visit to this place was ever easy, but this one… twenty-fifth anniversary,” Harry reflects in his writing. “And Meg’s first time. At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum.”
Harry recounts hesitating with Meghan before he approached alone to lay flowers and seek counsel from his mother silently.
“We hesitated, hugging, and then I went first. I placed flowers on the grave. Meg gave me a moment, and I spoke to my mother in my head, told her I missed her, asked her for guidance and clarity,” he writes.
Charles Spencer, the brother of the late Princess Diana, has touchingly revealed that he visits his sister’s resting place “pretty much every day” despite it being 27 years since the beloved royal’s untimely death.
During an appearance on Tuesday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, Charles recounted his frequent visits to Diana’s grave, located at the Spencer family’s ancestral home, Althorp, where he has been the custodian since the passing of their father, John Spencer, 8th Earl Spencer, in 1992.
The burial site of the former Princess of Wales is situated on a scenic island within an ornamental lake, hidden away in the Pleasure Garden of Althorp Park. The serene spot, which is closed to the public, can only be reached by boat and is reserved for visits by Diana’s nearest and dearest.
